Where Do You Hold Emotional Weight?

The Invisible Burden: Signs You’re Carrying Emotional Weight That Isn’t Yours

Highly Sensitive People, Empaths, High Achievers, Perfectionists, and Co-Dependents—this blog is for you.

Many of us carry emotional burdens we don’t recognize until they show up in our bodies. Common places include the chest, heart, gut, stomach, lower back, shoulders, neck, and head. Add the word ache to any of these—heartache, stomachache, backache, headache—and you get the picture. Emotional weight becomes physical weight. We feel it mentally, emotionally, energetically, spiritually, and even financially.

When we finally release what we’ve been holding, we feel lighter—just like a scale tipping back into balance. The tricky part? These burdens often build slowly and quietly. Over time, the feeling becomes chronic or habitual, and we don’t realize how heavy it is until we break down.

We start feeling tired, unmotivated, resentful, overburdened, numb, checked out, or overwhelmed. Sometimes it feels like there’s no way out.

For many of us, these patterns began in childhood. Maybe you grew up in a home where what you did mattered more than who you were. Maybe you felt unseen or unheard—not always, but enough to learn that “doing” earned love, attention, or approval more reliably than simply being.

This is not about blaming your parents. Even the best parents miss things. This is about taking ownership of your life now—learning new tools, releasing self-blame, and gaining the clarity you need to live the life that feels true to you.

I’m not here to tell you how to live. I’m here to guide you toward the parts of yourself that may be buried under guilt, shame, or emotional burdens that were never yours to carry. And here’s the good news: you don’t even have to know exactly where they came from to let them go. What a relief!

Life feels long when we’re hurting, but it’s short in the grand scheme of things. This is not the time to check out—it’s the time to check in. To get support. To feel stronger in your body, clearer in your mind, and more connected in your soul.

The world needs you—your true Self with a capital “S.” I know this because I’ve done the work myself. I’ve needed help, received help, and continue to get help. And now I help others not because I have to, but because I want to—because healing is meant to be shared.

The coping skills that once kept you safe as a child no longer serve you as an adult. You might wonder why you keep ending up in one-sided relationships or over-giving in hopes of receiving something back. You’re not alone, and you’re in the right place.

Maybe you’re a people-pleaser or someone who works in a helping profession because helping others makes you feel valuable. I understand that deeply.

Maybe you grew up with addiction in your family—where the unspoken rules were: don’t talk, don’t feel, don’t trust. That was my reality too. My father struggled with alcoholism, and I learned early how to carry things that weren’t mine.

And now? I help people put those burdens down.

Because you deserve to feel lighter.
You deserve to feel whole.
You deserve to come home to yourself.

If this resonated, therapy can help you unwind these patterns and build healthier, more aligned ways of living.
